Smartphones are amazing devices, they have made us able to stay connected, and they keep track of our eating, travel and shopping history, keep us entertained and organized. However, with all these benefits there are some serious side effects of smartphones.
A Serious Addiction
Smartphones have become a lethal addiction. In a survey, it has been found that college student spend an average of 10 hours on smartphones and they send 100 plus messages every day. In another survey, it is found that two out of five people cannot stay longer tahn60 minutes without smartphones. Nomophobia (a fear of being without your mobile phone) has become a serious issue now.
Continuous use of smartphones for hours can be a cause of your back problems because you are putting your back under pressure for hours. This pain is not occasional, 25% people are suffering on daily basis.
Smartphones not only affect your health on day-to-day basis but they can also cause you some long-term serious side effects and occipital neuralgia is one of them. Your nerves that run through spinal cord become compressed in a neurological condition. Its symptoms are similar to headache and migraine. Unfortunately, there is no cure for occipital neuralgia, only treatment are there to manage the pain.
Anxiety and Depression
Spending so much time on phones can cause anxiety and depression. When people do not receive updates from friends and family for a long time, they become worried and depressed. According to the studies, an average time a person spend worrying about smartphones, updates and other stuff is 68 minutes a day.
People spend more time sitting idle, using smartphones. This has limited their physical activities. Every single minute spent on smartphone is a minute wasted which you could have spent doing exercise, cooking or any other healthy activity
The use of phone and internet has affected the sleep to the greater extent. People take smartphones to bed and spend that time using phone which is necessary for sleep. As a result, they have disturbed sleep routine, which has bad effects on their health
When you are having a smartphone, you have everything installed on it. Your emails, chat applications and any other application that connects you with the world. When you are always available and in continuous touch with the world, you get every type of information that is the cause of stress. You do not get time to relax; you never have time for yourself, which can result in frustration and stress.
Smartphones are no doubt very invention; they have helped in many ways. They have made life easy but access of everything is harmful. When you make it your habit, a part of your life style and you completely depend on this, then it is an alarming situation. You have to limit the use of smartphones. Spend this time in other constructive activities such as spending time with friends, family and exercising to stay happy and healthy.
